Stacy's picture I have lived in the Sacramento area since 2000 when I attended UC Davis. After graduation I taught elementary and middle school for several years. Over the last 5 years the pregnancy and birth of my children has changed my life in immeasurable ways. Through both research and my own experiences I discovered that our culture has forgotten that pregnancy and birth are normal, healthy, and natural events for most women.

I chose to become certified to teach childbirth education through the International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) because of the many similarities in their organization's philosophy and my own personal beliefs. ICEA's motto, "Freedom of Choice based on knowledge of Alternatives" is one of several goals I have for my courses. I hope that I give every woman I teach the knowledge and confidence to have the birth of her dreams.

My true passion is in working as a Birth Doula. Thinking back to my own births gives me strength and joy on a near daily basis; I strive to help other families have a positive birth experience. I am a Certified Birth Doula through DONA and my training includes an intensive course with Penny Simkin and Kim James . I also worked regularly as a mentor volunteer doula at the Sutter Davis Birth Center until our family relocated to Folsom.

In February 2011 I founded the Capital City Doula Collective with the dream of expanding the niche for professional doulas in our communities. Capital City Doulas are making great strides in not only networking and growing great doula businesses, but also in educating families about the amazing role of doulas.

When I am not teaching and attending births I enjoy spending time outdoors with my family, reading, cooking, and traveling.
